Patrick Joyce Wins the 2023 AAGA City Open

Patrick Joyce showed some grit and determination as he kept the pedal to the metal despite being down more than 5 shots on the back nine at Norton Country Club; but his even-par, round of 71 got him into a sudden death playoff at the end of the day. He won the sudden death on the first hole played, the 18th at Norton.

Brandon Goold had birdies on holes 1 and 3 as he took the early lead away from Ethan Sullivan who bogeyed holes 2 and 4. Goold had double bogies on back to back holes, 11 and 12 to fall out of the lead, but bounced back with birdies on 13 and 14.

At one time, Sullivan had a commanding lead on the back nine, but Patrick Joyce patiently kept climbing the leaderboard and played the tough Norton CC course with an even-par round of 71. He finished at 3-over-par, 288, for the 72 hole tournament, tying Brandon Goold. In a sudden death playoff, Patrick got it done, and is the 2023 AAGA Men’s Champion.
